I Am ZoZo Review

I Am ZoZo is a psychological thriller about five young people who play with a Ouija board on Halloween and attract the attention of a malevolent demon...

I Am ZoZo (2012) is an American low-budget thriller horror film that is 85 minutes and was filmed in San Juan Island, San Juan Islands, Washington, USA and Seattle, Washington, USA. First-time full-length director, cinematographer, and writer Scott Di Lalla (Choppertown: The Sinners (2005), The Harbortown Bobber (2009), Choppertown: From the Vault (2006)) did not succeed in making an entertaining flick. Scott Di Lalla is known as a nonfiction filmmaker, so I was not surprised that I am ZoZo feels somewhat like an awful documentary. I dislike the shaky camera feel as the movie was shot on a Super 8mm film. I Am ZoZo is said to be based on a true story which claims Zozo is a malevolent entity that was contacted by several thousand people throughout the years that used the Ouija board and spirit board. People usually meet a gruesome fatality upon using the Ouija board to communicate with the evil spirit.

I Am ZoZo revolves around five friends partying on the weekend which of course uses an Ouija board for their sole purpose of entertainment on Halloween night. The friends are in a cabin on a remote island where the power is out, and they resort to flames/oil lamps as their source of light. Needless to say, they made contact with ZoZo, and one horrible thing happened - yes only one thing. There is not much to say about this film but keep in mind that one of the characters is a magician and one is a Wiccan. I must say that the friends appear to be civilized as their intake of alcohol were not tremendous as other films of its kind.

There was no suspense, thrills, tensions, excitement or anything close to making me feel this movie deserves anything more than a one. The director failed in every possible way at making this film a watchable movie, and the rest of the departments did not help as well as the actors. I Am ZoZo was a huge flop and waist of money.
