Contracted: Phase II Review
Synopsis:Riley searches for a cure to the virus that took over Samantha before it consumes him and the entire world.
Contracted: Phase II (2015) is an American zombie drama horror-thriller film that is 78 minutes and was shot in Los Angeles, California, USA. Contracted: Phase II was based on Eric England‘s script which was the writer and director of the first movie, Contracted (2013) which is the prequel. Director Josh Forbes (MKTO: Classic (2013), Home Cooking (2013), Sarah Bareilles: Love Song (2007)) did a fantastic job directing his first full-length movie. I enjoyed this movie as much as I did the first one and looking for a third sequel; I am almost positive there will be one. The film contains gore, sexual content with no nudity, intense violence, bad language, suspense, thrills, and tension.
Contracted: Phase II starts where the prequel left off showing us Sam infecting Riley with the virus. Contracted: Phase II explores Riley’s story as he degenerates and fights to save himself from becoming the inevitable. We see him transforming which is gross because the images are graphic so you might not want to eat before or eat while you are watching this. Riley ( Matt Mercer - Contracted (2013), Among Brothers (2005), Madison County (2011)) is desperately racing against time as he tries to find a cure for the zombie virus. Riley decides one of the steps he needs to take is to locate the person who first infected Samantha. Riley tries to help the detective find BJ ( Morgan Peter Brown - Absentia (2011), Ouija (2014), Piggies (2007)) who is the person that started it all. BJ, on the other hand, does not want to find a cure and is having fun spreading the virus to as many people as he can. I was disappointed that Riley was infecting a lot of people on his journey to find a cure, but that is what makes the movie interesting.
The ending was fabulous as every scene had its gross factor but was also entertaining and informative. I love that the movie explained how the zombie outbreak started, and I think that there will be a third movie because there were a few unanswered questions and a short scene after the credits. I enjoyed the scenes with the police officers and zombies the most. Horror and zombie fans should watch this movie and please watch Contracted (2013) if you have not as yet before seeing this film - it makes the experience more entertaining. The cinematography, directing, sound, makeup and actors all did an excellent job with their respective roles. I gave this movie a six because it is not something that I will watch again although I enjoyed it because it is one of those movies that will be a one time watch for most horror/zombie fans.
