Howling III / The Marsupials: The Howling III Review

A strange race of human-like marsupials appear suddenly in Australia, and a sociologist who studies these creatures falls in love with a female one...

Howling III: The Marsupials (1987) is a 1h 34-min Australian comedy horror that is the sequel to The Howling (1981) and is only PG-13 rated installment in the Howling series. Director and screenplay writer Philippe Mora (Mad Dog Morgan (1976), Communion (1989), Brother Can You Spare a Dime (1975)) failed upon executing this film into being anything worthy of watching. Howling III has many subplots that do not flow well with the movie. I cannot get over how terrible this movie is and blamed myself for expecting any better.

Professor Harry Beckmeyer’s (Barry Otto - The Great Gatsby (2013), Strictly Ballroom (1992), Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole (2010), Bliss (1985)) grandfather got a footage of a werewolf being killed in 1905 in Australia. Beckmeyer is an anthropologist who became intrigued and needed proof, so he went to Australia where he found himself more than one werewolf. The movie then switches to Jeroba.

Jerboa (Imogen Annesley - Queen of the Damned (2002), Playing Beatie Bow (1986), Cross Life (2007)) is a young, beautiful werewolf who ran away from her werewolf tribe. She ran away because her step-father Thylo (Max Fairchild - Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max (1979)) physically and sexually abuses her. She met Donny Martin (Leigh Biolos - Dark City (1998), The Year My Voice Broke (1987)) who is an American guy and they fell in love with each other resulting in them having a baby who is not all human a few days later after being sexually intimate. The movie then switches back to Beckmeyer with his search party and investigation.

Howling 3 made no sense whatsoever which may be due to it having too many subplots instead of sticking to one solid plot that could have at least been a decent watch. The many subplots never came together as one or unite. The scenes were clumsily edited and put together as though the editor was underpaid or just did not care. Reasons why I gave the movie a 3 - actress Imogen Annesley gave us a decent performance as Jerboa. The second reason is that there was one awesomely good action scene and most of the special effect throughout the movie was good. The ending of the movie was also good because it was better than the rest of the movie and secondly, I get to turn off my TV. There are too many bad things to write so if you feel like taking a challenge then you can watch the movie see all of the bad stuff/reasons why I gave this movie such a low score.
