Synopsis:Four friends on their way to Coachella stop off in Los Angeles to tour true-crime occult sites, only to encounter a mysterious young runaway who puts them on a terrifying path to ultimate horror.
Satanic (2016) is a 1h 25-min rate R American horror movie that terrible in almost every possible way and there was nothing that could have been done to save it from the weak script and terrible directing skills. I was waiting to see this film because the trailer was good and the cover image was spectacular and gave me the impression that the movie was going to be everything I want in a horror film, but unfortunately, it was the opposite. Director Jeffrey G. Hunt (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000-2013), Scorpion (2014-2016), CSI: NY (2007-2011)) There were no action scenes in sight leaving me to believe that all of the all happened off-camera but what is a satanic movie without action scenes of some sort.
Coachella/Chloe (Sarah Hyland - Modern Family (2009-2016), Another World (1964), As the World Turns (1956), Geek Charming (2011)) is a teenager on spring break traveling with her boyfriend Seth, cousin Elise, and her boyfriend, David. Chloe gave into her cousin Elise (Clara Mamet - Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), The Neighbors (2012-2014), Night Moves (2013), Two-Bit Waltz (2014)) demands to stop for two days in Los Angeles. Elise wants to stop in Los Angeles to tour the dark world of occult practices but Chloe’s boyfriend David (Steven Krueger - Goosebumps (2015), The Originals (2013-2017), Escape Plan (2013)) disagrees with the plans/idea.
Chloe, Elise, David and Seth (Justin Chon - Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), 21 & Over (2013)) did not expect to find a real satanic cult that will reign terror upon the four of them. They met Alice (Sophie Dash - Unbroken (2014), The Weeknd: The Hills (2015), Applecart (2016)) who appears to be harmless and friendly but proves them wrong as terror and unspeakable evils come face to face with them.
Satanic was such a cliche to many other movies, and it did nothing better to make it stand out from the rest leaving it to be a generic horror film. I found this movie to be tedious, annoying, dragged on and just plain out boring but everyone will have a different opinion - my video partner would rate this film a five, but we tend to view movies differently. Why did we not get to see the characters die on screen? We get that an invisible entity of some kind is wreaking havoc on the four people, and I might have missed it, but I am not sure why. The CGI was laughable as well as many other factors in Satanic. The actors did not help this movie to become something better as their performances were below average. I would recommend horror fans to skip this film.
