Synopsis:A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying.
[Rec] (2007) is a 1h 18-min rated R Spanish zombie horror reality-based film that was shot in Barcelona, Spain with an estimated budget of $2 million and grossed over $29 million at the box office. Directors and co-writers Jaume Balaguero ([Rec] 2 (2009), Fragile (2005), Darkness (2002)) and Paco Plaza ([Rec] 2 (2009), [REC] 3: Genesis (2012)) did a fantastic job working together and bringing us this excellent zombie movie.
[Rec] starts off like most movies which is at a slow pace. A news team is doing a reported coverage on local firefighters anticipating that they will be allowed to follow on a live run. The action did not take long to come as an incoming phone call from neighbors requiring the help of firefighters after they hear an older lady moaning. The call was what lead to the full blown chaos where acts of violence start a chain reaction. People began acting aggressively when bitten and started acting like mindless individuals who displays intense rage. The news team is happy that they are getting an exclusive coverage but are very unaware that their lives are in danger. They try to capture as much as they can on camera so that they can inform the world of what is happening in their location. The old lady’s building resulted in it being encased and quarantined - the following scenes are a must see.
I love the realism of the sound FX and excellently choreographed scenes of violence that were carefully shot from the right angles. I felt as though I was part of the action as I follow the characters as the camera falls amongst other things. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat a few times as I was anticipating the next scene and did not know what was going to happen next. The climactic ending was much needed as it brings/ties the whole movie together. I recommend everyone to see [REC] as soon as possible if you have not as yet.
