Kong: Skull Island Review

A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong, and must fight to escape a primal Eden.

Kong: Skull Island (2017) is a 2h PG-13 American action adventure monster-fantasy film that is the second film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse and is a reboot of the King Kong franchise. The movie was initially titled Skull Island (2017) and was re-titled to Kong: Skull Island on December 12, 2014. Principal photography began on October 19, 2015, on Oahu Island, Hawaii and concluded on March 18, 2016. Other filming locations are the northern portion of Vietnam and Australia’s Gold Coast. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer (2013), Single Dads (2009-2011), Successful Alcoholics (2010)) who does not have much experience under his belt has given us a unique movie that will blow King Kong fans minds away. It was a purely magical movie that is one of the best breathtaking, exhilarating action-packed fantasy movies that did not hold back - fans will enjoy Skull Island immensely from beginning to end for years.

Skull Island starts with a crash on a remote island during WWII where we see two pilots on opposing sides getting ready to fight each other; Kong peeks at them. The two pilots were alarmed at what they saw although we did not get to see Kong’s entire body. The movie skips forward to 1973 where leader Bill Randa ( John Goodman - Monsters, Inc. (2001), Roseanne (1988-1997), The Big Lebowski (1998), 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)) and his scientific team discovers a mysterious island. The island was located in the Pacific and was encapsulated making it mysterious. Bill’s team (the Monarch) thinks that the island inhibits new species/creatures.

Bill to ask for a huge favor from one of his politician friends. Bill receives the aid/help of Lieutenant Colonel Packard ( Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp Fiction (1994), The Hateful Eight (2015), Django Unchained (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)) and his soldiers. The soldiers accompanied Bill and his team to the island only to discover a giant monstrous ape who will fight at any cost to win dominion over his/the island, especially after the humans irritated him change his landscape.

Fans will be happy to know that we get to get to see close up of Kong along with a lot of other exquisite views of him throughout Skull Island. Kong is not the only creature you will see in the film as there are several other amazing creatures that will make you happy. There is one kill in Kong: Skull Island that viewers should not miss and pay close attention to because the scene was exhilarating for a PG-13 rating. I love that there was enough suspense to keep me going because the movie was unpredictable and I/we did not know what could happen at any moment - the movie was more thrilling because of that.

There are several films that I am/was looking forward to seeing with my family in March 2017 and Kong: Skull Island is one of them. I was excited and anticipating the release of this movie since I saw the first trailer. I was genuinely pleased and satisfied upon seeing Kong: Skull Island because it delivers more than I expected - a fantastic movie with minor almost unnoticeable mishaps. Seeing Kong was one of the best moments in the film because he was everything I imagined him to be.

My son loved it when Kong punched a helicopter out of the sky. The CG was excellent as well as everything about the movie including sound, effects, editing, makeup, etc. Monster movie fans should see this film at their earliest convenience and see it in Imax/3D if possible and please stay seated until the end of the credits because there is a scene that fans would not want to miss.
