Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Review
Synopsis:The adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York's secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) is a 2h 13 min PG-13 family fantasy adventure film that is a spin-off of the Harry Potter film series. Director David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)) executed writer J.K. Rowling screenplay marvelously. The movie had an estimated budget of $180 million and grossed over $812.2 million at the box office. It was an irresistibly light film that I will see again soon with my family.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them revolves around young wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything (2014), The Danish Girl (2015), Les Miserables (2012)) who arrived in New York City 1926. He arrived with a suitcase filled with magical creatures which got loose. Jacob (Dan Fogler - Kung Fu Panda (2008), Horton Hears a Who! (2008), Balls of Fury (2007)) who had no magic, Tina and her sister Queenie accompanies him. Tina (Katherine Waterston - Inherent Vice
(2014), Steve Jobs (2015), Michael Clayton (2007)) is a witch that works for the American Magical Congress. Newt and his crew went on a search to find his magical creatures and discovered a dark plot from an early version of the “Deathly Hallows.” Dark wizards are trying to recruit a witch. Credence (Ezra Miller - We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), Suicide Squad (2016)) was the tortured son of Mary Lou who was an anti-magic crusader that advocated the second Salem.
Fantastic Beasts was a fun filled adventure that my entire family loved and it was a plus that the movie was shorter than the Harry Potter films and it had a new batch of wizards. Eddie Redmayne and Dan Fogler gave us A+ performances as their acting was spectacular. I overall enjoy the movie and all it has to offer and would recommend it to all families. The creatures were a feast for the eyes as they were as magnificent as can be and almost flawless. The movie did have minor goofs and mishaps leading me to give it an eight for family films.
