Atomic Blonde (2017) Review

Atomic Blonde (2017) is a 1h 55 min American mystery action thriller film that was shot in Hungary; Germany and UK. Atomic Blonde had an estimated budget of $30,000,000 and was based on Antony Johnston‘s graphic 2012 novel titled, The Coldest City. Director David Leitch (Deadpool 2 (2018), Deadpool: No Good Deed (2017), John Wick (2014) - uncredited) did a fabulous job executing this movie when most of his experience is from being a stuntman. David has been an incredible action stuntman for about 20 years and had 82 credits as a stuntman.

Atomic Blonde revolves around Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron - Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Monster (2003), Prometheus (2012), Hancock (2008)) cleaning up the streets with bad guys in the late 1980s in Germany. Lorraine Broughton is agent MI6 that was sent to retrieve a report after the Berlin Wall was on the about to being taken down. The Eastern and Western side of Germany is panicking because the wrong people got their hands on a list of spies and government agencies in countries all over the could have a total breakdown.

Lorraine’s only contact is her ground station chief, David Percival (James McAvoy - X-Men: First Class (2011), Wanted (2008), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)) who appears to be up to no good the majority of the time. Lorraine cannot trust anyone while on this mission except herself and plans on taking out anyone who get in her way of getting the report.

It was incredible watching Charlize Theron displaying her talent as she kicks guys butts twice her size, but her expressions fit each hits, bullet and or whatever else she encounters. All of the other actors gave us great performances. I applaud the choreographer for giving us excellent action sequences that were a spectacular feast for the eyes. There is not much to say about the script as it was kind of loose/thin. The action scenes were brutal. I recommend all action fans to watch Atomic Blonde at your earliest convenience because it contains some of the best action scenes I have seen in a long time.
