Justice League Dark (2017) Review

Justice League Dark (2017) is a rated R 1h 15 min American sci-fi animated action-fantasy superhero film that is the twenty-seventh film in the Animated DC Universe Original Movies series and features the DC Comics team, Justice League. Director and storyboard artist Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman (2017), Thor: Ragnarok (2017), Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012)) did a marvelous job executing the writer’s story. The narrative was well told, and the action set pieces along with the multiple origin stories were astonishing. This movie contains disturbing extreme violence, supernatural, occult, demons, superhero team, ghosts, dark fantasy, DC Comics, superheroes, action, thrills, and a beautiful ending.

Justice League Dark revolves around people around the world thinking that almost everyone around them including their families and friends is monsters that have to be destroyed. The Justice League believes that a cult is behind the madness of the huge rise in the death toll as Batman does not believe any supernatural explanation but soon changes his mind after being possessed by Deadman. Deadman invades Wayne Manor and writes "Constantine" on a nearby wall after possessing Batman’s body.

Deadman guides Batman to Zatanna (voice - Camilla Luddington), where Zatanna is a stage magician who uses real magic, and she is also Constantine’s ex-girlfriend. Zatanna joins Batman on their quest as Deadman guides them to Constantine’s House of Magic. They did not take long to make their way to Dreamstone which is a magic gem that was created by an ancient sorcerer named Destiny centuries ago, but someone had the Dreamstone already and obtained its power. The movie goes on to showing us their journey as they try to solve the problem at hand and that is to save humanity.

There is a surplus of characters in Justice League Dark and many incidents that will keep you well entertained. It was sad to see Zatanna amongst others continuously insulting Constantine as Batman observes them on the sideline. John Constantine (Matt Ryan) is the key to this movie success as his character tries to protect humanity from evil. Matt Ryan played Constantine in the TV-series and returned to do the voice which was positively demonic for Constantine in Justice League Dark.

Justice League Dark is the first animated DC Universe film to feature the Swamp Thing, and this is the first film featuring John Constantine since Constantine (2005) with Keanu Reeves as Constantine.
