Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien: Covenant Plot Synopsis:Almost eleven years after the disastrous expedition to the distant moon LV-223, the deep-space colonisation vessel Covenant, with more than 2,000 colonists in cryogenic hibernation, is on course for the remote planet Origae-6 with the intention to build a new world. Instead, a rogue transmission entices the crew to a nearby habitable planet which resembles Earth. The unsuspecting crewmembers of the Covenant will have to cope with biological foes beyond human comprehension. Ultimately, what was intended as a peaceful exploratory mission, will soon turn into a desperate rescue operation in uncharted space.
Alien: Covenant (2017) Review
Alien: Covenant (2017) is a rated R 2h 2 min American science fiction thriller-horror film that was shot in several locations in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and in New Zealand. Alien: Covenant is a sequel to Prometheus (2012), is the second installment in the Alien prequel series, and is also the sixth installment in the Alien film series. The movie had an estimated budget of $97 million and grossed over $181 million at the box office. I cannot believe that it has been five years since we saw the last Alien movie in its franchise. I was somewhat disappointed that there were not more scenes with the Xenomorph creature/monster in Prometheus (2012) because director and producer Ridley Scott (Blade Runner (1982), Alien (1979), The Martian (2015), Prometheus (2012)) did an exquisite job executing this phenomenal movie, and this is the third Alien movie directed by Scott. The movie contains bad language, extreme violence, graphic gore, jump scares, sitting at the edge of your seat moments, bloody images, nudity, Xenomorph, alien, android, terraforming, space travel, and robots.
Alien: Covenant revolves around a crew on a ship that discovered something terrifying after landing on an uncharted planet. Alien: Covenant starts ten years after the events in Prometheus (2012) on a colony spaceship. The Covenant has about 2,000 passengers aboard who are all couples, and they plan to settle on a habitable planet, but they landed on another planet after receiving a strange transmission that derails them from their course. The group decides to send out someone to investigate the planet since it is a closer destination and disaster did not take long to strike after that as the horror accelerates at a fast pace.
I admire that the ideas were explored more in a straightforward manner in Alien: Covenant than in Prometheus and that alone gives us a wider picture of what transpired since we saw David and Dr. Elizabeth last. David appears to be scarier than the Xenomorphs. Alien: Covenant moves at a brisk pace which leads to a brilliant movie without any blunder or dullness.
There are several bloody scenes to satisfy gore fans, but the gore is not overwhelming. All of the actors did a great job with their respective roles as the entire cast was solid. It is sad to say that the storyline often seems to be imbalanced and the focus shifts towards the middle of the movie. I am not sure if moviegoers will like this film if they had not liked Prometheus although this movie gives great details to events. Those who have not seen Prometheus will enjoy this film because it was a great thrill ride that was a piece of a puzzle.
