Bloodrunners Plot Synopsis:

It's 1933 and prohibition has proven very profitable for corrupt cops like Jack Malone. He collects 'luxury tax' from every bootlegger and scofflaw in town. Shaking down the newly opened speakeasy should've been simple, but instead, Jack and his men uncover a clan of vampires hell bent on taking over the town.

Bloodrunners (2017) Review

Bloodrunners (2017) is a 1h 35 min American action-crime horror-mystery thriller that was Director, editor, cinematographer and co-writer Dan Lantz (Bloodlust Zombies (2011), Ninja Babes from Space (2007), Louisiana Smith and the ba**ard Son (2008)) did a great job blending several genres together. There was a mix of vampires , thriller, western, and had a hybrid influence.

Bloodrunners starts in 1933 where everyone is getting tired of the Prohibition laws including officers. Detective Jack Malone (Michael McFadden - The Tick (2017), Bull (2017), Gotham (2016)) and his partner Sam are one the case for Chesterfield. Chesterfield (Ice-T - Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2000-2017), New Jack City (1991), Johnny Mnemonic (1995), Tank Girl (1995)) is a businessman who has a boss named Victor.

Jack cannot seem to gather enough evidence and uses Willie who is an innocent busboy that wishes to steal Victor’s money and run away with his girlfriend, Anna. Jack and his partner discover that Chesterfield’s gang is shipping bottles with blood and not liquor. Things are not going Jack’s way, and he decides to team up with a priest named Luther (Jack Hoffman - The Lovely Bones (2009), Runaway Bride (1999), Another Happy Day (2011)) to get the real bad guy. Will Jack succeed in catching his mastermind criminals without racking up a massive body count along the way?

Bloodrunners had a great setup with extreme violence throughout the film, but their costumes appear to be taken from regular costume stores. I dislike the pacing and the fact that we had to wait quite a bit to see the vampire battle, but it was more than I expected when it did make its grand debut and was enjoyed by my fellow movie buddies and me. Some of the dialogue was nicely done while others were blah. Most of the actors gave us fantastic performances including
Michael McFadden’s solid performance along with Kerry McGann who plays Rosie. With all said, the movie left itself open for another installment although Ice-T put a damper on the final scene.
