Wonder Woman (2017) Review

Wonder Woman (2017) is a PG-13 2h 21 min American action-adventure-fantasy superhero film that was based on the DC Comics character, Wonder Women. Wonder Woman is the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe and is the second live-action theatrical film with Wonder Woman. The movie had an estimated budget of $149 million and grossed over $571 million at the box office. Filming/shooting began on November 21, 2015, and finished May 9, 2016. It was shot in several locations in Italy; England, UK, and Paris, France. Director Patty Jenkins (Monster (2003), The Killing (2011-2012), Arrested Development (2004)) did a phenomenal job executing this film that is a crowd pleaser.

Wonder Woman revolves around Diana (Gal Gadot - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Fast Five (2011)) who had only wished to become a warrior while growing up. Diana began training General Antiope (Robin Wright - Forrest Gump (1994), The Princess Bride (1987), House of Cards (2013-2017), Santa Barbara (1984-1988)) against her mother’s wishes.

Diana’s mother is Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen - Gladiator (2000), One Hour Photo (2002), The Devil’s Advocate (1997)) and she only wants to protect her daughter because she is the only child left on their island. General Antiope, on the other hand, feels that Diana has something special and only wishes to train if Diana needs to help to protect their island from invaders in the future.

Steve Trevor (Chris Pine - Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Star Trek Beyond (2016)) is a mysterious pilot that unknowingly brings a war to Diana’s island. Diana is bent on helping Steve fight the war against the German’s, but that also means destroying the mythological Ares who is the Greek God of War. Diana believes that the God of War is responsible for all the bloodshed in the world. It did not take long for Diana to realize that there is more to discover.

Gal Gadot gave us an extraordinary job with her performance as she provides us with a sense of innocence while she displays her strength and incredible fighting skills. She did justice to her role as we/you can see the fire in her eyes and I applaud the director for capturing her movements so well. Wonder Woman explores who Diana is and why she feels the need to save everyone regardless if he/she wants to be saved or not. I like the scene where Diana walks through bullets flying everywhere - fabulously jaw dropping. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine’s dialogue felt very genuine.

Wonder Woman was a bold, thrilling, adventurous movie that was fresh, intoxicatingly visually magical and was worth every penny I paid to see it. There was fantastic character development that helps us to either cheer or not for the characters. All moviegoers should watch this movie regardless if you are a fan or not because I think this Wonder Woman was made for everyone.
