Bethany (2017) Review

Bethany (2017) is a 1h 30 min American horror film that director James Bressack acted as a hospital visitor. Director, actor, and co-writer James Cullen Bressack (If Looks Could Kill (2016), Pernicious (2014), Hate Crime (2012)) did a fantastic job focusing on Claire’s childhood and how it affected her in her adult life. Bethany was a decent watch although there were a few stagnant acting performances.

Claire (Stefanie Estes - Mary Last Seen (2010), When Harry Tries to Marry (2011), If Looks Could Kill (2016)) was abused by her mother when she was younger. Claire discovered that she inherited her childhood home several years after her mother passed away, so she packs her things and heads back to the house where she was abused. Claire’s husband, Aaron (Zack Ward - Transformers (2007), A Christmas Story (1983), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Postal (2007)) accompanies her as they look forward to a new chapter in their life. Claire had an imaginary friend named Bethany and Bethany was one of the only comforts Claire had during her childhood.

It is no surprise that Bethany did not like the new member of the house and began to manifest herself in a manner that causes harm/injuries. Aaron started to think that his wife is slowly becoming crazy, and so did her psychiatrist who tells her that it is her past recurring to her.

Horror fans should watch this film in the dark at their earliest convenience because it is a remarkable psychological and paranormal feature. If you are anything like me, then the slight noise in the night time will spook you after watching this film. The movie was shot well with an excellent music score, sets, cinematography, compelling scenes but there were times where the film was a bit slower paced.
