Pumpkinhead 2 - Blood Wings Review

Thrill-seeking teenagers resurrect a demon from his grave and a bloody rampage for revenge begins.

Pumpkinhead 2 - Blood Wings (1993) is an American horror thriller movie that is a direct-to-video sequel to Pumpkinhead (1988) and is barely related to others in the series. Director Jeff Burr (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), Land of the Lost (1991), Stepfather II (1989)) did an average job executing this movie which had the potential of being something better. The film contains a demon, witch, sexual content, nudity, violence, bad language, drug (pot) use, revenge, monster, murders, vengeance, and impalements.

Backstory: Six teenagers saw Tommy, who is deformed and also the offspring of Pumpkinhead in 1958 in Ferren Woods. The teenagers assume that Tommy is some sort of demon and attacks him with switchblade knives and baseball bats leading them to drop him down in an old iron mine.

Present: Sheriff Sean Braddock (Andrew Robinson - Hellraiser (1987), Dirty Harry (1971), Cobra (1986), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993)), his wife, and daughter Jenny has arrived in Ferren Woods town thirty-five years later. Sean was offered a job as a local sheriff and accepted the job in the hometown he grew up in. Jenny made friends with Danny Dixon (J. Trevor Edmond - Return of the Living Dead III (1993), Lord of Illusions (1995), Higher Learning (1995)) whose father was one of the kids that murdered Tommy 35 years ago. Danny and his friends use the vial of blood to resurrect Tommy’s corpse and little unbeknownst to them, it worked. We all know that trouble soon follows the teenagers Tommy was resurrected in the form of Pumpkinhead. It, of course, did not take long for the teenagers who had a hand in Tommy’s death to start dying in the most gruesome ways possible. What happens next is what is expected, but I was happy to see Jenny’s (Ami Dolenz - General Hospital (1963), Can’t Buy Me Love (1987), Ticks (1993)) outcome and learning of Sean’s good deed.

I was disappointed after watching this movie, but it was somewhat entertaining although there were major plot holes and the plot was not faithful to its original. The actors are one of the problems with this film as their acting skills were below average which did not help the movie. The special effects were good but not excellent, and the camera angles were also good. It is a great movie to see if you want to view a film without thinking too much or paying attention to it - a movie to pass the time with decent kills.
