Review of Cabin Fever
Eli Roth once lived on a farm, and during his stay there he contracted a strange yet curable skin disease. At one point while shaving, he actually skinned off quite a few layers of his own skin, right down to the flesh. This gruesome bit of non-fiction became the basis for the film Cabin Fever, which he wrote and directed. This movie is about five friends who are rent a cabin in the woods for a bit of relaxation after college finals. However, upon arriving at the cabin they proceed to violate every moral code established by society. One of the group accidentally shoots a hermit who is infected with a flesh eating virus, but instead of helping the sick man he leaves the hermit for dead. Soon, the hermit shows up at their cabin asking for help, and in a tense series of events the teens end up setting the man on fire. However, this is not the end of their worries. Anyone could be infected by this virus and they become paranoid, turning on eachother throughout the movie, as well as dealing with the very strange locals. This is one very original horror film, mixing dark comedy and gruesomely disgusting scenes perfectly, as well as paying homage to many great horror films to come before it. This movie is definately a must own for any horror fan, and everyone should expect great things from Eli Roth in the future, as this is definately not the last flick he'll make. Look for Roth himself in the small role of Grim, a pot smoking skater.

Ok, forget the plot, forget the actors and lets focus on the gore factor for a moment shall we.Now quite a few horror movies to come out were supplying us with the standard fare, hack and slash, and we were lulled into it. Its like eating Kraft Dinner, not that tasty but quick and easy. Cabin Fever brought us back to the originality of gore. I mean who cant stare in morbid fascination as a girl gets her face chewed on by a dog, while still alive. To this day i still think about the bathtub scene when i'm shaving my legs....girls you know what I'm talkin about, especially around the achillies tendon. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Now the actors were great, and i loved the irony of the plot. all in all this movie was great. -

I kinda enjoyed this film. So many people criticised it, but they all seemed to miss the vital fact that it's a comedy - a fact that was kept well hidden before the films release, which is why no-one quite knew how to react. Its sick, but it's definately amusing! -
