Larry Cohen directed A Return to Salem‘s Lot (1987) takes us right back to Stephen King‘s Salem‘s Lot (1979). A Return to Salem‘s Lot received a nice budget estimated at $12 million.
A Return to Salem‘s Lot is about a father, Joe Weber (Michael Moriarty) who gets his foul-mouthed son Jeremy Weber (Ricky Addison Reed) after some time. He takes his son to Salem‘s Lot where he grew up as a child. Together they renovate Joe’s aunt house after her passing. The problem is, the village is filled with vampires who want Joe to write a "Bible" of all their lives and culture. To motivate Joe, the vampires use hi son Jeremy as leverage.
A Return to Salem‘s Lot has some acting issues like the son Jeremy sounding more like a typical stereotype of a bad child with an absentee father. Secondly, the events and characters from the first installment are not mentioned in this Salem‘s Lot sequel. When you watch this film, it is easy to see that this sequel should have been a stand-alone film because it makes you assume this film is a continuation in some way. That makes you look for things that are not there and grade this movie worse. The pacing of the film winds down toward the end of the film and does not finish as strong as it should.
