Our take on Big Legend (2018) explores its plot, scares, and horror highlights to help fans decide if it deserves a place on their watchlist.

Justin Lee directed Big Legend (2018) is a Bigfoot movie that takes the sub-genre seriously. This film focuses on the Native American folklore that the Bigfoot creatures are not friendly creatures and should be avoided at all costs because they are ferocious predators. This low-budget film focused a lot on the action scenes as they were well put together. Movie icons such as Lance Henriksen and Adrienne Barbeau star in Big Legend too.

Big Legend focuses on ex-soldier Tyler Laird (Kevin Makely) who proposes to his finance in the Pacific Northwest when a Bigfoot creature attacks them. Tyler Laird managed to survive, and after talking with his mother, played by Adrienne Barbeau, he ventures back into the woods to take revenge and kill the Bigfoot creature. Lance Henriksen plays Jackson Wells who is extremely important for the sequel to this film or maybe even a prequel.

First thing I have to say is that the action scenes were done well. The showdown between the Bigfoot creature and Tyler reminded me of the iconic Predator (1987) where Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch is setting up all the traps to help him defeat the Predator. However, the low budget showed in the Bigfoot costume, but maybe that is because I was trying to focus on the details.

I did have some minor issues with the intensity of some scenes and the pacing/editing of those scenes. The mother-son scene was played well but needed to be a little shorter or edited differently; it was a very intensely shot scene that seemed to go on for a little too long. I understand the why, but it just may not come across too well for other viewers.

I am not going to spoil the movie ending, but that is where Big Legend shines. The acting and fight sequences were good and drew in my attention. Like I said previously, it drew a lot of inspiration from Predator in my mind and that is great. The movie ending sets the stage for a real confrontation between the Bigfoot creature and Tyler, this time with some help. The Big Legend ending redeemed a lot of the flaws, many flaws that could have been taken out in editing in my opinion, so make sure you watch the film through to the end.
