Big Trouble in Little China (1986) is an American action adventure comedy movie that is a cult classic. Director John Carpenter (Halloween (1978), Escape from L.A. (1996), Escape from New York (1981), They Live (1988)) once again did a phenomenal job. I have seen this movie many times throughout the years and never got tired of it. The movie contains brief nudity, s**ual content, bad language, extreme violence, comedy, thrills, suspense and nonstop action.
Jack Burton (Kurt Russell - The Thing (1982), Stargate (1994), Death Proof (2007), Grindhouse (2007)) is a truck driver. He and friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun - The Last Emperor (1987), Midnight Caller (1988), Prince of Darkness (1987)) is on their way to pick up Wang’s fiancee Miao Yin from the airport. Chinese street gang, Lords of Death, kidnapped females at the airport and sell them as s** slaves. The Lords of Death gang failed at kidnapping a Chinese girl at the airport because Jack intervened. The gang took Miao Yin (Suzee Pai - Jakarta (1988), Sharky’s Machine (1981), Extralarge: Ninja Shadow (1993)) instead. Jack and Wang chased the Lords of Death gang which resulted in a huge fight/battle. The Chang Sing and Wing Kong are two ancient Chinese societies that are fighting it out as well. The Chang Sing was killed by The Three Storms which is thunder, rain, and lightning. The action continue as Jack runs over the leader of the Wing Kong known as powerful sorcerer David Lo Pan (James Hong - Blade Runner (1982), Mulan (1998), Kung Fu Panda (2008), General Hospital (1963)). David Lo Pan is not hurt but is about to get revenge as Jack, and Wang tries escaping.
Wang is a restaurant owner and takes Jack to his restaurant to meet with some people. Miao Yin is now in the hands of David Lo Pan, and Jack will have to get her back. There is so much more to this movie and you will have to see it. It is a cult classic after all that everyone should see with an open mind. The comedy in here is not like any other comedy movies and you cannot miss it, you might not laugh but you will definitely chuckle a little. The actors all did a wonderful job with their parts, especially in the action scenes which is throughout the movie. The set and cinematography was spectacular.
