Blood & Donuts (1995) is a 1h 29 min Canadian comedy horror film that was shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Director Holly Dale (Amazon (1999), Dangerous Offender: The Marlene Moore Story (1996), Hush Little Baby (2007)) did a fabulous job executing this movie that revolves around a vampire. Blood & Donut is different from our usual vampire movie. Blood & Donut revolves around a vampire named Boya (Gordon Currie - Puppet Master 4 (1993), Alive (1993), Highwaymen (2004)) who accidentally awakened after 25 years of sleep. He is a shy greasy haired metal guy who gradually started to interact and care for the humans around him. Boya attends high school and is by himself most of the time, and he also refuses to feed off of the humans who he became accustomed. Boya satisfies his hunger by feeding off of rats and birds.
Molly (Helene Clarkson - Love Child (1996), Dangerous Offender: The Marlene Moore Story (1996), Woman on Trial: The Lawrencia Bembenek Story (1993)) works at a donut that has a weird relationship with Earl, who is often seen at the donut shop and is a cab driver. Earl (Louis Ferreira - Shooter (2007), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Saw IV (2007), SGU Stargate Universe (2009-2011)) ran into trouble one night with local gangsters, but Boya came to his rescue leading Boya and Earl to become friends. Boya now had to deal with his aging ex-girlfriend that discovers Boya is alive.
The tone and pace of the movie were good as well as the soundtrack which contains a few classic oldie tunes. Gordon Currie did a brilliant job playing Boya, and so did one other character who I have mentioned above, but Earl did a poor job with his performance with his unconvincing foreign accent. Overall I would recommend this film to other fans who likes a good vampire movie although this movie had so much potential of being better. The few action scenes were average and so was the entire movie except for the screenplay resulting in a score of five.
