HellHorror’s review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) is an American sci-fi action superhero film that is the ninth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo (You, Me and Dupree (2006), Community (2009), Welcome to Collinwood (2002)) join together again to bring us a fantastic treat.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier revolves around Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon joining forces so that they can fight Winter Soldier, who is a mysterious assassin and uncover a conspiracy in S.H.I.E.L.D. We see Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans - The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Snowpiercer (2013)) working in Washington D.C. for S.H.I.E.L.D. about two years after the Battle of New York. Steve’s director is Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp Fiction (1994), Django Unchained (2012), The Incredibles (2004)), who sends Rogers and a few others to free hostages aboard an S.H.I.E.L.D. vessel. Skip forward and we see the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan - Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Black Swan (2010), The Martian (2015)) and a few of his assailants ambushing Nick Fury. Fury manages to escape in time to warn Rogers at his apartment that S.H.I.E.L.D. was compromised. I was laughing at this point because I found it amusing that Fury gave Rogers the flash drive just seconds before the Winter Soldier shot him. The movie progresses to be an adventure as Rogers becomes a fugitive and the S.T.R.I.K.E. team are hunting him down. Rogers soon discovers that S.H.I.E.L.D. was founded after World War II and Hydra has been secretly operating within its ranks causing global chaos. I was shocked to see who the Winter Soldier was and how Rogers knew him, watch to see the battle.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a movie that should not be missed by superhero fans of all ages. There was a few goofs as well as plot holes but nothing to take away from an entertaining experience. The characters/cast/actors all did an excellent job with their heroic roles as well as the minor cast members. I enjoyed watching this movie with my family/children and will watch it again with friends and guests. I gave this film a nine because almost everything was perfect about this film with beautiful CGI graphics and great camera angles. Watch the movie until it is finished, past the end credits and you will be happy with the surprise.

This film contains extreme violence, super soldier, assassin, manhunt, good versus evil, megalomaniac, heroism, surprise after end credits, race against time, world domination, infiltration, betrayal, conspiracy, secret government organization, Marvel cinematic universe, Marvel comics, shield, fugitive, die-hard scenario, prosthetic arm, police car explosion, minigun, firefight, bullet proof automobile, and electrocution.
