Cube (1997) is a science fiction psychological Canadian horror movie that blew me away. I sat in my seat and did not budge until the movie was finished. Some movies that may have borrowed some scenes from Cube are Saw, Piranha (large stage device tips over and a cable snaps loose from too much tension) and 13 Ghosts. Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Ginger Snaps, Cypher) wonderfully directed and co-wrote this amazing movie that I have seen many times. It is a low budget movie that exceeded my expectations in every way. It is by far one of the most terrifying, creepy, tension-filled, psychological thriller, horror and deadly movie I have ever seen. Cube contains s**ual reference with no nudity, violence, gore (opening scene especially), bad language, suspense and various death scenes.
The opening scene shows us Alderson (Julian Richings - Man of Steel, X-Men: The Last Stand, Wrong Turn) waking up in a cube room with a hatch on each wall. He does not know how he got here and found passages to other rooms. While opening the hatches, He enters an orange room where he was sliced to pieces by a wire grill. Worth, Quentin, Holloway, Rennes, and Leaven met each other in a different room, and no one knows how they got there and why they are there. The group exchange information they found out while going through several cubes. The group figures out the cubes are triggered by a motion detector, and heat detector after Rennes (Wayne Robson - The Incredible Hulk, Wrong Turn, Interstate 60: Episodes of the Road) is sprayed with acid, that killed him. The group thinks that everyone is there for a particular reason. They have to try in every way to save their lives. I do not want to spoil the movie so watch it.
Cube made me realize that this can happen to anyone, even me. The plot was ingenious; acting was on point and superb, the set was awesome and the director did an excellent job executing this movie.
