Dead Sea (2014) was an awesome Sci-Fi thriller movie that I might watch again. I love the way director and writer Brandon Slagle (House of Manson, Area 51 Confidential, The Black Dahlia Haunting) gave us the backstory to this horrific creature. It contains gore, violence, suspense, and lots of screaming. This movie received a 6 because their were some loose ends.
Victoria Amissus (Alexis Lacono - The Black Dahlia Haunting, Kiss Me Again, Blue Caprice) is a Marine Biologist that has left her small town many years ago to achieve her goals in life. Now she is faced with the decision to go back to her hometown and reestablish a relationship with her father, Callen. Victoria travels back to her hometown because she feels the need to investigate the mysterious death of fishes that are washed ashore from the salt water lake. She knows that the townspeople and her classmate from her younger days would not welcome her open heartedly so she decides to stay out of sight as much as possible. Her town also keeps a dark secret. It is said that a small town is cursed every 30 years with a horrifying serpent that takes home/residency in a lake.
Eve (Candace Kita - Circus of the Dead, Coffin, Falling), Anna (Jennifer Woods - Family Products, Invoking, Mikeyboy), Auriel Servus (Devanny Pinn - A Grim Becoming, The Penny Dreadful Picture Show, The Devil’s Nightmare) and Claire (Chanel Ryan - Dracula‘s War, Scream Queen Campfire, The Undead) are girls of the small town that decide to go out on the lake and party on their boat. This is really where the movie begins in my opinion because I am on the edge of my seat at this point.
The actors did a terrific job and made it easy for me to relate and feel emotions toward them. The scenery was absolutely fantastic. The CGI effects was good but not excellent. Will any of the girls survive and if so, who will survive? What does the townspeople have to do if any of the girls survive? How does Victoria deal with the sea monster? What secret does the town hold dearly? Why does the monster need to feed every thirty years? Watch the movie and find out.
