Decoys (2004) is a Canadian English science fiction comedy horror movie that did not have as much comedy in it as one who assume or like. Director and co-writer Matthew Hastings (Eureka (2006), The Originals (2013), Bloodsuckers (2005)) did an okay job executing this movie. I really do not like when directors/writers star in their own movie because I feel it is too much work on their plate to do and that in a movie not doing as good as it could have. This movie had potential, but the directorial skills or effort was lacking.
Decoys starts out really beautiful within the first few minutes, and then things got weird. A jock with flowers in his hand is sneaking into his girlfriend’s room to surprise her, but he got a surprise instead. He found the room was extremely cold, and there was also three dead bodies with their mouths open. The movie then shows us virgin college freshman students Luke (Corey Sevier - Immortals (2011), Surf School (2006), Metamorphosis (2007)) and Roger (Elias Toufexis - Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011), Assassin’s Creed II (2009), Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010)) trying their best to lose their virginity. Luke and Roger were doing their laundry when they saw Lily (Stefanie von Pfetten - 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002), Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), The Killing Machine (2010)) forgetting to take her roll of quarters from the laundry. Luke decides to return the quarters to her in her room but she was not there, so he enters her room anyway. Lily and her friend Constance (Kim Poirier - HypaSpace (2002), Drive-in Classics (2001), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Paradise Falls (2001)) returns to room and Luke hides in their closet to be shocked out of his mind. He spied on the girls and saw them opening the window and then he saw tentacles coming out of their chests that made them s**ually aroused.
Skip forward a little and we see Luke and his girlfriend began their own little investigations to find out what the aliens are and how to get rid of them permanently. Constance told Roger that the aliens actually do not mean to hurt anyone and only want to save their race from becoming extinct. The aliens need to impregnate men by sticking their tentacles down the male’s throat which kills most men. Roger then decided of his own free will to mate with Constance which resulted in Roger not surviving after the birth of their baby alien. Constance is devastated because she is in love with Roger and did not want him to die. The movie goes on, and I was surprised to see who the next alien was after Luke believed that he and Alex killed all the aliens.
Watch the movies to see who dies in the process of everything and who survives. Who is the mystery alien that Luke does not know about? Will Luke survive the mystery alien or the alien take revenge? The movie was an okay watch, but I believe that it had potential and could have been something exceptional. The actors did a good job with their roles, but the movie overall appeared a little dragged on. The special effects were not much to talk about and did not give me the wow factor I was looking for. The music was okay, and everything else about the movie was average.
