Delivery: The Beast Within (2013) is a psychological thriller horror found footage film that is about a young couple expecting their first child and demonic pregnancy. I was not too happy at first going to see this movie because there is so many movies about demonic pregnancy and at first it appeared to me as a cliche. First time director and writer Brian Netto did a wonderful job with this movie by giving us little gore and little intense startling scenes with lots of suspense. He elaborated more on the storyline, characters and what if this or that happened. I especially like the interviews throughout the movie because it gave the movie a more realistic feel and approach. Deliver: The Beast Within is certainly creepy and unsettling.
The movie started out as a slow found footage style reality show that followed the couple on the pregnancy of their first child - this part had some comedy. Kyle Massy (Danny Barclay - The Dinner Party, Withering Azalea, Dirty Sex) is an extremely stressed out non-Catholic husband and his wife, Rachel Massy (Laurel Vail - Leading Ladies, The Black Dawn: Catalyst, Life Between Interviews) is a very cranky Catholic depressive pregnant woman. The creepy and scary parts started after Rachel almost had a miscarriage - her presumably dead fetus in the hospital comes back to life. Some of the disturbing things are the dog started to growl at her, Hispanic woman screams “devil” at her in Spanish while house hunting, cameras in her home start to glitch, their home is broken into and vandalized with occult symbols and some other things that will give you shivers.
The ending was a shocker and sent chills up my spine. It is an image that is stuck in my mind that I repeatedly see for days after seeing the movie. I could not believe how Brian Netto pulled off the shocking bold ending scene. Brian did an exceptionally good job for his first movie. He has potential, and I cannot wait to see more movies from him as a director and writer. The best acting in this movie by far is from beautiful and talented Laurel Vail.
