HellHorror’s review of Don't Blink (2014) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.
Don’t Blink (2014) is an American science fiction mystery horror movie that was filmed in Ruidoso, New Mexico, USA. Director and writer Travis Oates (Winnie the Pooh (2011), Fish in a Barrel (2001), Arena (2002), Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (2008)) has acted in over 21 movies. He has a knack for acting, not for directing his second film and writing his very first movie. Mr. Travis should stick to acting or at least write and direct a movie that is not a cliche to others out there. Instead of people being ran after and killed, we are seeing people vanishing into thin air with no smoke surrounding them or any sound at all. I gave this movie a five because it did keep me intrigued enough for me to want to see the outcome. Hmmm, maybe Travis should continue writing and directing but take some classes before his next movie.
Don’t Blink is about a group of ten friends who went for a weekend getaway at a mountain resort in the middle of nowhere. Like every other movie, the group saw no one else at the resort upon their arrival. I would have wondered why there was no one else. The group saw warm food left on the dinner table, and it appeared to them as whoever was there had left in a rush because their belongings were still there. I would have been thinking by this point to bolt out of there, but not these kids. The group now saw that there is no wildlife around them as well as no phone service, no gas in their vehicle and no help at all. They are stranded and slowly start vanishing into thin air. Wondering what’s going on with them??? Watch the movie to see. The first guy to disappear returns at the front door and knocks. One of the remaining guys with a gun, shoots the first guys’ two legs and then dragged him outside, I guess to question him but the guy disappears again. It is bad, but I was happy when the guy with the gun shot himself in the head. Do not blink, or you might be next to disappear or so the movie portrays.
I love that the director gave us time to know the characters. The actors did a fabulous job with their roles and made it as believable as can be. I gave this movie a lower score than it deserves because I totally dislike movies that leaves me wondering, what was going on with the characters? The film ends without saying how they were vanishing, I guess it is up to the audience to decide. I did love the scenery of the mountains, the view was gorgeous.
