Stephen King‘s Dreamcatcher (2003) did not do so well when it was originally released, but I enjoyed the overall movie. This horror film does have a lot of flaws even though it has an all-star cast. The movie feels overly busy, and they just tried to condense so much into the film that it feels rushed at points.
With all that being said, Dreamcatcher is a likable mistake of a horror movie that I am still happy to have seen. Director Lawrence Kasdan had to sacrifice much of the character development to complete the movie in the 134 minute run time.
Damian Lewis, Jason Lee, Thomas Jane and Timothy Olyphant play longtime friends who share the past in which they gained telepathy. The X-Files were huge at this time, and I feel like I was treated to a long episode of The X-Files at times, and I did not mind. The friends use telepathy to combat the parasitic alien invasion in Maine through the drinking water supply, yes I immediately thought of Poland Spring water.
Dreamcatcher was not scary, but if you watch it without the high expectations, you can enjoy the movie for what it is.
