Exploring Final Girl (2015) through our review, we cover its story, scares, and how it fits into the broader horror genre landscape.

Final Girl (2015) is a Canadian-American action thriller horror movie that was directed by Tyler Shields (Outlaw (2016)) who did an okay job executing his first film. The film contains extremely graphic violence with disturbing images and bad language. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with an estimated budget of $8,000,000.

Final Girl revolves around Veronica (Abigail Breslin - Zombieland (2009), Signs (2002), Rango (2011)) who met William after her parents died. We were introduced to Veronica’s personality from the beginning of the movie by the answers she gave William. She told William (Wes Bentley - The Hunger Games (2012), American Beauty (1999), Interstellar (2014), The Four Feathers (2002)) that people died every day when he asked her about how she felt about her parents death. William recruited Veronica for a job that is intended for particular people.

The movie skips to us seeing twelve years later where Veronica is now blonde and is getting ready to finish the job as she runs through the woods barefoot so that she can get used to it. Veronica is not allowed to use a gun for the job because a gun is only good for the number of bullets it has and when the bullet runs out then it is no good. The movie progresses to introducing us to a few young guys who invite females on dates and then take the females to the woods so that they can hunt the females resulting in them eventually killing the girl. Veronica soon finds out about their game and well the rest is history as she became one of the four guy’s date. Will Veronica be able to survive the young men attacks or will her training come in handy?

I gave this movie a three because first-time director Tyler tried and failed so there was effort and the terrible acting from his cast, they did not help the film any bit. The editor, cinematographer, producer and sound department did not help the film to become anything remotely better either. The actors performance was weak and unprofessional as well as the camera angles. There were many plot holes, and the movie was just pointless.
