HellHorror’s review of Frailty (2001) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.
Frailty (2001) is directed by Bill Paxton and stars Bill Paxton as the father to two young boys. This R rated movie that scored 5 movie awards and 16 more movie award nominations. Frailty had an estimated movie budget of $11 million but only pulled in $13.1 at the box office. Shame too, this film is really interesting.
We start off with a man confessing to an FBI agent about his murders and how his religious father inspired his murder spree. Frailty is a movie that at first seems to be simply a madman making up reasons to kill so many people. The father teaches his two sons how to find evil people by touching their forehead and then killing them to cleanse the world. The father claims that he is doing Gods work and that God is directing his actions.
Frailty is currently on Netflix for streaming, and I suggest you either watch it for the first time or rewatch it at your earliest convenience. The pacing feels super slow at first, and that is on purpose to show that it all started from a small town. After you watch the film, you understand why the pacing was like that and further give Bill Paxton and writer Brent Hanley praise for the film.
The acting is phenomenal with Bill Paxton as the father and his young sons played by Matt O’Leary and Jeremy Sumpter. Matthew McConaughey has a special role that I do not want to spoil. The ending is something that had me guessing then it came out of nowhere, the big reveal. Make sure you watch Frailty, you won’t be disappointed.
