Our review of Frankenstein (1931) dives into the story, the scares, and whether it truly delivers the horror fans crave.

James Whale directed Frankenstein (1931) won the Online Film & Television Association 2011 Motion Picture movie award. Frankenstein had an estimated movie budget of $291,000 and filmed five days over schedule. Frankenstein has gone on to gross $12 million at the US box office.

Frankenstein is about Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) going on to reanimate the dead tissue from countless corpses. Frankenstein succeeds in reviving the dead tissue into a living being known as The Monster or Frankenstein’s Monster (Boris Karloff).

This Frankenstein (1931) film is an incredible piece of work and will stand the test of time-actually, it has already stood the test of time by this point, given that it is over 85 years old. A remarkable film that, along with Dracula, succeeds not only as horror but as cinema. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then this is one of the most flattered films in cinematic history. One of the all-time greats. Most totally, wholeheartedly and wholly recommended.

The visuals and special effects are dated, but the tenacity the actors have playing their roles is inspiring. Not everyone is willing to give a film this old a chance, but if you can, you will appreciate it.
