Horror fans will enjoy our review of Frankenstein vs. The Mummy (2015), where we cover its story, scares, and how it ranks among modern horror classics.
Frankenstein vs. The Mummy (2014) is an American horror movie that had an airtime of 115 minutes. Damien Leone (Terrifier (2011), The 9th Circle (2008), All Hallows’ Eve (2013), Love (2005)) is the writer, director, editor, creator and also did the makeup effects. I know that this is a low-budget film, but it could have been so much better if more effort were put into it. I was so anticipating this movie from the first time I saw the trailer and was majorly disappointed after seeing it. I bet I was not the only one waiting to see two movie icon monsters battling it out and felt a sense of regret after seeing it. Why show us the monsters when the movie was almost halfway through - should have been shown earlier. I wish Damien would have told us more of the monsters and Dr.Victors background.
Frankenstein vs. The Mummy is about Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Max Rhyser - Chaser (2013), Homeland (2008), A Four Letter Word (2007)) is one of those people who have more than one identity. He is perfecting his skills by trying to reanimate corpses by stitching bits and pieces of corpses together and teaches medical students during the day because he is a medicine professor, after all. Victor and Archaeologist/Egyptologist Naihla Khalil (Ashton Leigh - The Woodshed (2012), Where Strippers Go to Die (2010), Out of True (2011)) are professors at the same university in the United States and are dating. Naihla does not know about Victor’s corpse activities until one eventful event. Victor succeeded in making his reanimated monster, Frankenstein Monster (Constantin Tripes) comes to life and coincidentally/accidentally made Naihla’s mummy (Brandon deSpain) of a 3,000 year-old evil pharaoh in Giza that she brought back from her trip to Egypt two months ago comes to live as well. Will anyone be safe from these two corpses who came alive and started a murderous rampage? Dr. Victor made Frankenstein smarter by using his assistant’s (John Pickett) fresh human brain, yes he is crazy enough to kill his assistant.
My final thoughts - the movie was way too long for the minimal show time of the monsters. If you have the patience to wait to see the full face of the monsters in the last 10-15 minutes of the movie then by all means, see this movie.
