This in-depth review of Graveyard Shift (1990) explores its story, characters, and scares in detail, offering insights for every horror fan.

Ralph S. Singleton directed Graveyard Shift (1990) is based off a short story by Stephen King. Graveyard Shift had an estimated movie budget of $10 million and only grossed a little over $11.5 million at the US box office. This R rated horror movie puts rats in the focal point as the nasty little beasties that they are. David Andrews, Kelly Wolf, Andrew Divoff, Brad Dourif, and Stephen Macht star in Graveyard Shift, not to be confused with the vampire film Graveyard Shift (1987). Graveyard Shift received one nomination award for best film.

Graveyard Shift tells the tale of a group of workers who get caught up in a serious rat infestation taking place in a very old textile mill. That alone is skin crawling but after a serious of events, the group ventures far below in the deeper caverns below the very old textile mill. What lays there waiting for the group is far worse than the already serious rat infestation.

I remember watching Graveyard Shift as a kid in the 80s and thinking what a believable horror movie, it could happen. Fast forward to today, I still enjoy the film. The acting from the cast was believable, and the rats are all real, the cast was surrounded by tons of live vermin. I have to admit though; my gripe is with the last scene and the creature. It looked so fake and let down what could have been a great finish to a classic horror movie. I always said I would love seeing a remake of Graveyard Shift.

Watch Graveyard Shift in the dark very late at night.
