Horror fans will enjoy our review of Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms (2006), where we cover its story, scares, and how it ranks among modern horror classics.

Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms (2006) is an American action adventure animated TV movie that is 77 minutes long. It is the first of the Hellboy Animated series that is based on Mike Mignola‘s comic book series Hellboy. Directors Phil Weinstein (Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle (2008), Bratz Kidz Fairy Tales (2006)) and Tad Stones (Darkwing Duck (1991), The Return of Jafar (1994), Aladdin (1994)) excelled at executing this masterpiece. The movie excelled in almost every way possible with beautiful visual effects, excellent voice acting, and awesome character designs. The only problem I found with this movie is that the animation was either a hit or miss at some points and wished that it was a hit all through the movie. The missed animation includes some weird facial expressions, unnatural character movements, and a few cheap looking animation scenes which resulted in the movie receiving an 8 from me.

Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms starts by showing us Hellboy, Liz Sherman and Abe battling Mayan zombies that are led by a humongous zombie bat. Liz (Selma Blair - Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), Hellboy (2004), Cruel Intentions (1999), Legally Blonde (2001)) releases her pyrokinetic powers which help them to win the battle. The movie went on to telling us the backstory of demonic brothers, Thunder and Lightning and how their demon spirits were trapped in the sword. What happened after was terrible as I did not think the Lord would do that to his daughter and the warriors after he broke his promise to the demon brothers. It was an unseen outcome that I did not like but fit the movie well as the movie progresses. The movie skips to present day where Professor Sakai became possessed while reading the scroll by the spirits of Thunder and Lightning resulting in him searching for the mystical sword so that the brothers can conquer the world. Hellboy (Ron Perlman - Hellboy (2004), Hand of God (2014), Blade II (2002), Sons of Anarchy (2008)), Kate Corrigan, and a psychic named Russell Thorne began investigating. Kate (Peri Gilpin - Frasier (1993), Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001), Make It or Break It (2009)) and Russell are now seeking Sakai and Hellboy. Hellboy vanished into thin air and traveled to a different universe after he picked up a Katana.

The movie was a great watch that exceeded my expectations and will be viewed by me again in the near future. I love romance and drama movies which made me enjoy this movie all the more since it is somewhat about cursed ancient lovers. Watch this movie and leave a comment below telling us what you like and dislike about his movie.
