Hideous (1997) shocked audiences with its ending. Our spoiler-free review explains the scares, themes, and what makes this film unforgettable.
Hideous! (1997) is an American comedy horror movie filmed in Romania. Director Charles Band (Blood Dolls (1999), Puppetmaster (1989), Ragewar (1984), and Shrunken Heads (1994)) did an okay job bringing this movie to the camera. The film could have been executed better, but it was an excellent watch for a 1990s movie. The movie contains s**ual content, nudity, comedy, a little blood, fetuses, and a story I have not seen before.
Hideous! revolves around a discarded deformed fetus that sewage worker Martin (Andrew Johnston - Happy Gilmore (1996), Best in Show (2000), Agent Cody Banks (2003), and Miracle (2004)) found. Martin called his contact to sell the weird oddity, and the thrills began. Collectors of medical oddities want the deformed fetus. The fetus and others in his collection come back from the dead and are alive. Collectors Elvina (Rhonda Griffin - Lost in Reality (2012), Naked Fear (1999), The Creeps (1997)), Napoleon Lazar, and Dr. Lorca are desperate to get their hands on the deformed fetuses. They are collectors and want to collect the fetus for their collections. Elvina, Napoleon Lazar (Mel Johnson Jr. - Total Recall (1990), Intimate Stranger (1991), In the Shadow of the Cobra (2004)), and Dr. Lorca continue their quest for the fetuses. However, they know the fetuses are alive and can see, hear, smell, etc. The fetus wrote a note explaining that they want to be left alone, but that note is ignored as the collectors continue their search for the fetus. The fetuses began making mischief and disaster after the collectors would not leave them alone.
I gave this movie a five because it took way too long to introduce the fetuses and the plot holes. It was entertaining to see the film, but I will not watch it again because it was not that great of a movie. The cast did an excellent job with their roles. The action scenes needed a little more effort, and the screenplay had loose ends. The humor was there, and I found myself laughing quite a bit. Overall, everything about the movie was average.
