Exploring Howling VI: The Freaks (1991) through our review, we cover its story, scares, and how it fits into the broader horror genre landscape.

Hope Perello directed Howling VI: The Freaks (1991) is one of the lower points in the Howling franchise of werewolf films but still better than some other The Howling (1981) sequels. It is also the first Howling movie to include a vampire in the series-opening the possibilities of a more extensive assortment of monster creatures.

Howling VI: The Freaks is about a carnival owner housing many human oddities as exploitation but, simultaneously, almost a refuge for these creatures. A young werewolf gets trapped and is held against his will in the carnival.

Howling VI: The Freaks tries to save The Howling franchise, but with the low budget and the more economical spectrum of actors, it was a stricter venture than initially expected. We get a more in-depth look into the fear of the werewolf trapped in the carnival and the view of a safer place for the other attractions. The werewolf transformation is better than the other sequels, but the end product is a less captivating werewolf than it should have looked. In the end, Howling VI is not a werewolf movie I will watch again, but I respect the try to save the franchise.
