Exploring Lo (2009) through our review, we cover its story, scares, and how it fits into the broader horror genre landscape.
Lo (2009) is an American musical comedy movie that contains horror. Writer and director Travis Betz (Joshua (2006), The Dead Inside (2011), Sunday (2008)) did an incredible job executing this film in a comedic tone. Travis did an excellent job bringing us this entertaining original film that he did a marvelous job blending the horror and comedy. The film was shot nicely with individual scenes captured at the right angle. The movie contains s**ual content, extreme violence, suspense, thrills, frightening moments, demons, black magic, hell and blood sacrifice.
Justin (Ward Roberts - The Boy Scout (2002), Sick Puppy (2009), Bad Cars (2012)) is a guy that only wants to bring back his beloved April from the dead. He started to dabble in dark arts/supernatural because that is the only way he can think of to bring her back. His black art book contains a spell on how to summon a demon named LO. Justin did not take long to summon LO, who emerges from the underworld and ready to do what Justin needs him to do, or so we think. LO’s (Jeremiah Birkett - L.A. Confidential (1997), Evan Almighty (2007), Police Academy: The Series (1997)) grand entrance was a little frightening and scary. Lo is funny, hideous as can be and he moves like a crippled snake that drank too much and spoke like a hip band member. Justin was in for a total shocker as he discovers that April (Sarah Lassez - Mad Cowgirl (2006), The Blackout (1997), The Dead Inside (2011)) was a demon that was in disguise. April adapted to the human life and fell in love with Justin, forgetting that she was sent to Earth to torment souls, cause misery and eat people. LO’s friend Jeez (Devin Barry - Save the Date (2012), Dust Up (2012), Crashing (2007)) who is also a demon is starting to take control of Justin’s mental state of mind.
Lo is about a guy that will do anything to be reunited with his loved one, even if it means entering hell to be with her. I am gullible to love stories and love this movie. I will see this movie again in a few months and cannot wait to do so. I recommend this movie to horror fans that love to get a few chuckles/laughs while watching a movie and enjoys a good love story that is not cheesy.
