This in-depth review of Love in the Time of Monsters (2014) explores its story, characters, and scares in detail, offering insights for every horror fan.

Love in the Time of Monsters (2014) is an American comedy horror movie that is 97 minutes long and was filmed in Gasquet, California, USA and Klamath, California, USA. Director Matt Jackson (Tough Love (2009), Background(ed) (2007), Beauty and the Geek (2005)) has made this movie for me or so I feel. I am in love with this movie and will see it again and again. The movie does have flaws, but the storyline shines over the flaws. Imagine you as a child is shouting “ “we love family vacation!” and seconds after seeing your father/parents being crushed by Paul Bunyan’s ax statue.

Love in the Time of Monsters is about two girls visiting one of their boyfriend who works near a tourist trap. Carla (Marissa Skell - Hold Up (2011), Sorority Party Massacre (2012), Sssleepy Time (2009), It’s Not About Coffee (2010)) and Marla (Gena Shaw - The Laughter of God (2000), Herbie! (2004), We’re Not Together (2011), European Son (2012)) are sisters. Carla is the hopeless love and romantic type with blonde hair while her sister Marla is the cynical type with brunette hair. Marla loves to get drunk, have one night stands with hot guys and does not want to fall in love. Ok enough description about the girls. They have witnessed the death of their father when they were on a family vacation years ago. The girls are now older and have return to the tourist trap area where their father died. Carla’s boyfriend Johnny (Jade Carter - Office Ninja (2014), Awakening Arthur (2010), Love or War (2012), The Waterhole (2009)) works nearby the tourist trap as a costumed Bigfoot performer. Upon their visit, they encounter strange occurrences and have no choice but to fight for their lives.

What occurrences you may ask - Johnny and some other buddies fell into a lake that was contaminated with the industrial waste while performing, and all hell broke loose after that. Johnny and his amigos transformed into flesh-eating zombies/monsters attacking everyone in sight. Marla is waiting for her sister Carla to return to camp and has no idea that Carla is trapped amongst the monsters/zombies. Will Carla survive being amongst the horrifying flesh-eating creatures?

I felt as though this movie was made for me, and others might not feel that way but everyone has their own opinions. I immensely enjoy watching love stories and horror movies, and when they are seamlessly joined together - my mind explodes with joy. The sets, storyline, cast, cinematography, music and lighting effects were all excellent.
