HellHorror’s review of Mars Needs Women (1967) breaks down the plot, scares, cast performances, and its lasting impact on the horror genre.

Mars Needs Women (1967) is an American science fiction movie that is 83 minutes long and was filmed in several locations in Texas. Director and writer Larry Buchanan (Zontar: The Thing from Venus (1966), Goodbye, Norma Jean (1976), The Naked Witch (1961)) failed in every possible way upon executing his terrible screenplay. The movie was an okay watch and is something that I will not watch again. The plot, dialogue, and special effects appeared as though much effort was not put into it. The cover image should give you an idea of how bad the movie is. I gave this movie a four because it was okay, not good and I say okay because it had a few cheesy laughs and bizarre moments. It was touching to see one of the Martians developing feelings for a human female and feels the need to help her. I do not recommend this movie because it deserves to be on a do not see movie list because it reeks disaster. The movie is okay if you have nothing else to do and plan on multitasking while watching. The actors did not help the film with their cheap lousy acting - they could have done a better job but probably felt the need not to because of the awful screenplay/dialogue.

A U. S. military station in Houston in 1966 intercepted a message and decoded it, the message read "Mars ... Needs ... Women". Dop and four other Martians males were deployed to Earth because Martians can only produce male children. The five Martian are on Earth to recruit females to take back to their planet to produce female babies. The production of female offsprings in Mars will save their civilization from becoming extinct. Dop and his team use their transponders to select the women to take back to Mars. The U. S. military tracks Dop (Tommy Kirk - The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), Swiss Family Robinson (1960), Old Yeller (1957), The Shaggy Dog (1959)) and his team are considered invaders. Dop and his crew disguise themselves as human males by wearing human clothes, using money, maps, and transportation. The five Martians hypnotized a few females and captured them. There is a lot more to the movie that shows how one special Martian feeling/emotions changed while on Earth.
