Night Junkies (2007) shocked audiences with its ending. Our spoiler-free review explains the scares, themes, and what makes this film unforgettable.
Night Junkies (2007) is a rated R 1h 30min UK romance thriller horror movie that shot at Three Mills Studios, Three Mill Lane, Bow, London, England, UK and other locations in London, England, UK. First-time full-length director and writer Lawrence Pearce excelled in executing this outstanding film that I have watched a few times since its release in 2007.
Night Junkies revolves around a modern-day Jack the Ripper terrorizing people in London. Vincent (Giles Alderson - Hero ( 2017), The Gridiron (2016), The Banksy Job (2016), Booker (2016)) is our vampire that roams the streets at night looking for his next meal which is human blood, and he is addicted to it. Vincent lived a life where he stayed away from everyone until he met Ruby (Katia Winter - Negative (2017), Knight of Cups (2015), Dexter (2012), Sleepy Hollow (2013-2017)) who is a stripper.
Ruby did not like being a stripper and also did not like what Vincent has turned into during their passionate moment after knowing him for about only four hours. Ruby did not mind her new lifestyle at first until she realized that she would have to prey on innocent humans every night. Ruby decided that she will try to rid herself of her new addiction and tries her best to convince her love, Vincent, to also quit his addiction. Ruby’s workplace owner sends Matt who is obsessed with Ruby to bring her back to work, but it will not be an easy fight as Matt is a newbie vampire who leaves a trail of bodies behind him, Matt cannot control his urges and kills whoever he can feed off of.
Night Junkies is not just another ordinary vampire movie because it gives us myths about Vampires including wooden stakes, garlic, and Holy Water. Night Junkies was similar to a drug addict movie in the sense that the vampire was addicted to blood as a junkie is addicted to drugs and the vampire, like the junkie becomes vulnerable when it comes to fulfilling their desires/urges.
The Night Junkies was a low budget movie that had a well-developed storyline along with terrific dialogue and offered something new and creative for us to watch in 2007 as it was a refreshing change. I still enjoy watching this movie today as it is a remarkable movie to watch with guests who is into horror movie containing little gore and awesome score/soundtrack. I was amazed at this pure storyline driven movie with terrific performances which leave me to say that I adore the chemistry that Vincent (Giles Alderson) and Ruby (Katia Winter) share as it was as realistic as can be. It is hard to believe that this film was shot on a low budget because its production value was amazing with great locations, sets, seamlessly beautiful camerawork, and almost perfect lighting.
