Night Watch (2004) is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted (2008), Day Watch (2006)) and is a fantasy thriller film set in Moscow. This film has an estimated movie budget of $4.2 million, and it shows in some of the costume designs and visual effects.
Night Watch revolves around Anton (Konstantin Khabenskiy) who joins a group of agents who keep the dark "Others" with supernatural powers in a kind of equilibrium. A balance must always remain between the Day Watch and the Night Watch, that is how they refer to keeping the balance between the two parties similar to the Ying and Yang.
Night Watch features some amazing visual effects and costume designs with an interesting story that tries to blend action and lore. The action and lore combine well, but towards the end of the film, it becomes a little tedious and feels like it was overdrawn out. The surprising twist felt like it should have been over with a few minutes before the ending. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the lore in the time instead. I would have given this film a high six but rounded it up to seven instead.
