Octopus (2000) is an American adventure horror movie that is one hundred minutes and was filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria. Director John Eyres (Judge and Jury (1996), Ripper (2001), Irish Jam (2006), Shadowchaser (1992)) and screenplay writer Michael D. Weiss (Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006), Hostel: Part III (2011), I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)) failed miserably. This movie was a waste of my time, and the octopus was mostly weird. I l did like the one twist in this movie - everything else was predictable.
Octopus starts by showing us what happened in 1962 in the ocean during the Cuban Missile Crisis. U.S air force attacks a Russian submarine that was carrying a huge amount of anthrax-like poison before it reaches Cuba. The anthrax-like poison in the not-so-sealed drums sank to the bottom of the ocean and… The movie then fast forwards 48 years later and shows us the world’s #1 terrorist Casper (Ravil Isyanov - Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), GoldenEye (1995), Defiance (2008), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)) bombing the U.S embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria. CIA analyst Roy Turner (Jay Harrington - American Reunion (2012), Better Off Ted (2009), Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy (2006)) captures Casper. Roy now has to take Casper to the U.S. submarine and accompany him to the U.S.A. The submarine has an Oceanographic doctor analyzing the changes of the ocean currents and marine life around the Devil’s Eye. The Devil’s Eye is an area in the ocean where twenty-seven ships went missing or disappeared.
I gave this movie a three because it was a nice twist to see Casper’s people trying to rescue him from the U.S submarine. There is too many movies that are similar to this and that makes it hard to like this movie with so many plot holes and a somewhat boring storyline. The actors performances were weak. Every time I watch a movie that failed miserably; I kept thinking about all of the money that went to waste. That money would have helped feed so many people or could have been donated to a charity that will make a difference in people’s live.
