Our review of Pitch Black (2000) dives into the story, the scares, and whether it truly delivers the horror fans crave.

David Twohy directs Pitch Black on an estimated $23 million movie budget. Pitch Black took in $39.2 million at the US box office and gained a cult following. Pitch Black received 2 movie awards and 4 movie nominations.

Pitch Black is the introduction to the popular character Riddick played by Vin Diesel. Riddick is a prisoner and escaped convict, on a spacecraft that crashes on a mysterious planet. This planet has three revolving suns. The suns, however, line up with another planet. That will result in a pitch black darkness on the current planet lasting for decades. When this happens, gruesome predators come to the surface of the planet to devour anything on the surface. A pretty good story in my opinion, however, limited it might be.

The actors do a good job, and the settings heighten the plot. Some twists along the moral undertones make this a far from boring movie. Vin Diesel played the character perfectly and Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser, and Keith David compliment with there characters. Pitch Black is listed as a horror sci-fi movie but do not expect jump scares or for that much, any scares.
