Quatermass and the Pit (1967) is a British science fiction horror movie that is also known as Five Million Years to Earth (1967). It is the sequel to The Quatermass Xperiment (1955) and Quatermass 2 (1957). Quatermass and the Pit (1967) is based on BBC Television series Quatermass and the Pit. Director Roy Ward Baker (A Night to Remember (1958), Asylum (1972), Five Million Years to Earth (1967), Don’t Bother to Knock (1952)) did an incredibly good job executing this movie. It is an old movie, but it still has charm.
Quatermass and the Pit revolves around a mysterious buried artifact being discovered at the site of the London Underground. They also found human-ancestor remains that are believed to be more than five million years old. Prof. Bernard Quatermass (Andrew Keir - Rob Roy (1995), Adam Smith (1972), Cleopatra (1963), Five Million Years to Earth (1967)) believes that aliens have influenced humans and is the reason humans are so intelligent after he saw something that he thinks is an ancient Martian spacecraft. The Professor and other workers have also discovered the remains of three-legged creatures with horns coming out of their heads and they resemble insects. Experiments and tests determine that the three-legged creatures came from Mars.
There are so many good things in this movie, and I absolutely do not want to give anymore away. There is telekinesis, missile, government, Earth, aliens, humans, aliens taking over human minds and bizarre happenings. I love to see this movie at least once a year, so it is on my list of movie to see again - get it as soon as you can if you have an open mind and do not mind old movies with dated graphics, cinematography, and special effects. The actors were top-notch, and the settings could not have been any better. The plot was good, and the screenplay was awesome.
