Our review of Scream 4 (2011) dives into the story, the scares, and whether it truly delivers the horror fans crave.
Scream 4 (2011) is a 1h 51-minute American mystery slasher horror film that is the fourth and final installment in the Scream series. Director Wes Craven (Scream (1996), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), New Nightmare (1994), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)) executed the movie fabulously and manages to throw in 2 decent jump scares. The film was shot in Healdsburg, California, USA and several locations in Michigan USA including Plymouth; Ann Arbor; Woodworth Middle School, Dearborn; Northville; Hutzel Women’s Hospital, Detroit; Livonia; Clement Rd, Northville and W Dunlap St & Linden St, Northville.
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell - Party of Five (1994-2000), Scream (1996), Wild Things (1998), The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride (1998)) returns to town, Woodsboro for a book signing and the killing almost immediately starts. Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox - Friends (1994-2004), Cougar Town (2009-2015), Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), Scream (1996)) is no longer a reporter and has been married to Dewey Riley for ten years. Dewey (David Arquette - Never Been Kissed (1999), Eight Legged Freaks (2002), Jake and the Never Land Pirates (2011-2016), Scream (1996)) is the chief police who has a lot on his plate to deal with at the station including new and old things.
Ghostface has returned to Woodsboro in the disguise as a new killer but we are reminded that Gale helped an awful lot in solving the previous crime, and a book came out of that. Gale has writers block, but that quickly changes after the murders started to happen again. Sidney is determined to keep her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts - We’re the Millers (2013), Aquamarine (2006), Wild Child (2008), The Art of Getting By (2011)) alive at any cost. Sidney shows us her new moves as she defends Jill from being attacked.
The entire cast gave us strong performances, and I think that is because they had a strong script with solid dialogues. I do not like the majority of Scream movies but this my favorite out of all because it is cool, fun, inventive, pretty scary sometimes, and well acted. Scream fans should see this film as soon as possible if you have not already.
