Something Wicked (2014) is an American drama psychological thriller horror movie that was filmed in various locations in Oregon, USA. The movie contains Brittany Murphy‘s final role in a film before she unexpectedly died in December 2009. Director Darin Scott (Dark House (2009), Caught Up (1998), Tales from the Hood (1995), Waist Deep (2006)) did an okay job with his execution of Something Wicked. I was not surprised that the movie did not wow me and, therefore, was pleased.
Something Wicked follows young Christine (Shantel VanSanten - The Final Destination (2009), One Tree Hill (2003), You and I (2011)) who is parentless, a virgin and has been accepted to Oregon University. Christine and James (John Robinson - Lords of Dogtown (2005), Elephant (2003), Transformers (2007), Seraphim Falls (2006)) who works at a sawmill are dating. James asks Christine’s parents for their blessings and for their daughter hand in marriage over dinner but Christine parents told them they can get married after Christine finishes school. James is driving Christine and her parents home and a train unexpectedly hits their car and kills Christine parents. Christine now lives with her brother Bill (James Patrick Stuart - Pretty Woman (1990), It’s Complicated (2009), The Penguins of Madagascar (2008)) and his wife Susan (Brittany Murphy - 8 Mile (2002), Clueless (1995), Girl, Interrupted (1999)) while attending school as planned. Christine swears that she is being stalked by someone - can it be her ghostly parents? Christine’s wedding day is drawing near and the intensity of the horrifying stalking gets worse and no one really believes her.
Something Wicked was a nice watch for a rainy day without anything else to do. The actors did not do a good job with their roles, and that did not help the movie. I did feel empathy for Christine in the movie and I think that was mainly because of the card she was dealt. The screenplay was weak, and the directorial skills did not help. I do not recommend this movie to other viewers as it is a bad memory of Brittany Murphy last movie. Brittany Murphy‘s death is being investigated to this day because of high levels of iron in her hair, it is possible that she was murdered.
