The Battery is the first movie for Jeremy Gardner to direct, produce, helped write and act in. He did an amazing really good job for a newbie. The Battery had a budget of $6,000, shoot in Kent and Norwalk Connecticut and only took 17 days to shoot. How many people can pull off a well loved movie with that budget. The director really executed his writing and directing skills to make this low budget zombie masterpiece and don’t forget, his performance was top notch. There was so much attention to details in this movie.
The actors did an extremely great job with their parts which were very believable and better than some of the top actors out there. I really felt all the emotions in this movie and felt as though I was there with the characters - truly amazing. The director focused more on the characters of the movie instead of fright scenes with the zombies.
The Battery is about 2 totally opposite average people who are baseball players on the same team and stick together after the zombie plague hits New England. Ben (Jeremy Gardner - Spring, The Robert Cake, The Bags) is cheerful and has a positive outlook on everything whereas Mickey (Adam Cronheim - first time acting and producing in The Battery) is a pure nuisance who cannot stand the good hearted guy but knows well enough if he leaves then there will be no one to protect him. Not only do they have to survive from the the zombies but they have to survive each other as well. The two guys are trying to survive the best they can and cannot wait to go back to a normal adult life. One day they found a pair of walkie talkies and Mickey hears a radio transmission with a female voice, Annie. Mickey became obsessed with Annie’s voice and that lead them down a path that they should have not taken.
It is a must watch movie for all zombie and apocalyptic lovers out there. It is definitely not for people who like movies because of the gore factor, action flicks and intense scare factors. The ending of this movie will make you not want this movie to end, you will crave more and hope for a part 2. Hopefully Gardner makes more low budget movies soon that will excel as The Battery did.
