Exploring The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006) through our review, we cover its story, scares, and how it fits into the broader horror genre landscape.
The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006) is an American science-fiction psychological thriller horror movie that is mostly not related to The Butterfly Effect (2004) but is followed by The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations (2009). Director John R. Leonetti (cinematographer of - The Conjuring (2013), The Mask (1994), Insidious (2010), and Mortal Kombat (1995) did an awful job executing this movie. Maybe the screenplay was at fault but regardless the movie is not worth seeing even if it is on TV. John Leonetti should stick to his real field, cinematography because he excels in that department and fails at being a director.
Julie (Erica Durance - Smallville (2001), Saving Hope (2012), The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006), I Me Wed (2007)) and her boyfriend, Nick are celebrating her 24th birthday with friends. Nick (Eric Lively - American Pie (1999), So Weird (1999), 24 (2008)) was called in to work urgently while he and Julie were discussing their future. Nick and his friends were involved in an accident on their way to the city and Nick is the only one that survived. Nick seems to be losing it as he looks at photos with Julie; he began to see the people in the picture moving as everything around him shakes. Nick is looking at photos of Julie again one year later and somehow finds himself with her before the incident. Things changed because Nick figured out how to change the timeline and soon wakes up in a new timeline where he and Julie are living happily. Nick is using his new ability to change many things in his life but what will his faith be? I want to give the whole movie away, but I will end here because I know some readers might want to see the film.
The movie was a waste of time, and I should have known from the cover image. It is loosely related to the first Butterfly Effect movie and yes, it does not have much to do with it. Wondering if I should see part three? The performances the actor gave was terrible, and they could have done better. There is way too many plot holes/gaps in the storyline, s**ual content, mistakes and too many clueless moments. The movie was a total fail and will ruin people’s impression of The Butterfly Effect (2004) if they have never seen it. I gave this movie a two because I was generous. I also gave it a two because of the message the movie was trying so hard to give, what will one do to have their loved one in their arms again?
