Our honest review of The Dead the Damned and the Darkness (2014) breaks down its scares, pacing, and whether this horror movie truly stands the test of time.

The Dead the Damned and the Darkness (2014) aka The Dead and the Damned 2 (2014) is an action thriller horror movie with zombies. Director and co-writer Rene Perez (Alien Showdown: The Day the Old West Stood Still (2013), The Snow Queen (2013), The Dead and the Damned (2011)) did an okay job executing this movie. The movie contains no s**ual content, nudity, gore, violence, a lot of action, suspense and zombies.

The Dead and the Damned 2 takes place in present time unlike the first in its sequel. There was an enormous amount of zombies in this movie, but it flowed so well that it was not overwhelming. The zombies in this movie are called mutants although they are real zombies that love to eat humans. The mutants became the biggest threat to mankind as you might have already guessed - zombie apocalypse on earth. Handsome Army Lt Colonel Sawyer (Robert Tweten) left the zombie apocalypse in North Africa and travelled to Wyoming to save his daughter and wife. Upon arriving and seeing skeletal remains, he assumes that they died. He then cremates them and puts their ashes in a container. Sawyer sets out on a journey to scatter his wife and daughter ashes in the ocean. Sawyer meets attractive deaf and mute Stephanie (Iren Levy) who cannot talk, but can sometimes scream words. Sawyer felt as though he lost his world and did not want to live anymore. He continues his mission to scatter the ashes so he can kill himself after.

I really like that it was explained how the zombies came about and why the zombies slowdown. The zombies/mutants slowed down when they were starving/decomposing - when fully fed; they can become pretty fast. The main characters were explained and introduced nicely. I did not like how the sound kept on changing/was uneven. The characters did a good job with their roles. I would not recommend this movie to fellow zombie movie lovers because it is simply not for everyone.
