The Rezort is a 2015 British zombie horror movie with a run time of 93 minutes. It is directed by Steve Barker, and Paul Gerstenberger shot in Spain, Wales, and Belgium.
The film takes place after a human vs. zombie world war, in which the humans were victorious. All zombies have been wiped out, with the exception of the Rezort. The Rezort is an island where zombies are kept alive to be hunted by guests for fun. The main protagonist of the film is Melanie (Jessica De Gouw) who goes to the resort with her boyfriend Lewis (Martin McCann) to help her get over some of her fears that have stayed with her since the zombie war. At the Rezort, they are put in a group with several other guests who will be hunting with them. Jack (Jassa Ahluwalia) and his friend Alfie (Lawrence Walker) are two young gamers who won a video game competition - an all expenses paid trip to the Rezort being the grand prize. A mysterious army veteran, Archer (Dougray Scott) and a young woman, Sadie (Elen Rhys) are also in the hunt group.
Before leaving for their expedition to hunt zombies, Sadie is shown slipping into the security control room. After this, the security system keeping the zombies from running rampant fails. The Rezort is quickly overrun by the zombies, and those out hunting have no protection against them. Melanie is faced to conquer her fear in ways she had not anticipated.
One of the more original zombie films in recent years, The Rezort (2015) keeps viewers drawn in. There are twists and plenty of action for the audience craving a more fast-paced film. While those craving a bit of mystery, Sadie’s role leaves the viewer guessing until the end.
The film is a fun one to watch and has characters that the audience can root for (and against). The only aspect of the film I found lacking was the special effects. The gore was mediocre at best, and any explosions showed were shown through poor CGI. The unique plotline is something that will excite fans of the zombie genre, as it differs greatly from the usual zombie apocalypse film.
I enjoyed my time watching this film and greatly appreciated the uncommon storyline. I would rate it an 8/10. It is available on Netflix for streaming.
