The Ring (2002) shocked audiences with its ending. Our spoiler-free review explains the scares, themes, and what makes this film unforgettable.
The Ring (2002) is a one h 55-min American supernatural psychological horror movie enjoyed by many horror fans worldwide. Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007), Rango (2011)) created a beautifully scary film for us. The Ring contains foul language, intense, frightening scenes, sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments, thrills, mystery, graphic scenes, and minor violence.
The story says that you will receive a phone call if you watch the videotape, and you will die seven days later, but if you give someone else the video to watch, you will be spared, and she will go after that person. The videotape displays several disturbing images that mean something. They were clues to tell us about Samara’s (Daveigh Chase - Donnie Darko (2001), Lilo & Stitch (2002), Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003-2006)) origin/upbringing.
Rachel (Naomi Watts - King Kong (2005), Mulholland Drive (2001), The Impossible (2012)) is a young journalist that decided to investigate urban legends. Rachel discovers that there is more to the videotape, which leads her on a mission to destroy its legacy by finding its origins, the families, and reports around it. According to the legend, Rachel only has seven days to find the truth before she dies. We learn that Samara, who was a tortured soul, led the film into becoming a horror thriller with a great mystery for us to unravel. Samara is one creepy chick that will give you nightmares and make you see things that are not there. I was creeped out for several days after watching this film. The haunted spirits can cross over to our world without any problem, of their free will.
The Ring is a great movie to watch on a dark rainy night. Will Rachel prove this legend wrong, or will she be left scrambling for time to save herself and her son’s life? All the actors gave us excellent performances, especially Daveigh Chase, because she spooked me the heck out. I was not too fond of the relationship between the characters, and the chemistry did not feel correct/accurate. The scare factors were top-notch, and I cannot find one fault with them, just all praises. The editor, cinematography, sound, and sets were on point and excelled my expectations.
