Our take on The Tommyknockers (1993) explores its plot, scares, and horror highlights to help fans decide if it deserves a place on their watchlist.
The Tommyknockers (1993) is science fiction horror TV miniseries that is an adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel, The Tommyknockers. The miniseries was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand. I do not recommend this movie for kids as there are adult s**ual references (visible thrusting and bare backs) and the word horny is used in a s**ual way. There is little violence, not much blood, suspense, plot holes and somewhat intense scenes.
This movie is about something that was buried in the woods behind Bobbi’s house. Bobbi is an aspiring author of juvenile novels. She dug it up, the artifact, and caused the town to change drastically, mainly the women and children first. The artifact started to influence the townspeople in what seems to be a good way because people became smarter and instantly had amazing talents. The affected people had green eyes and started inventing things that no one knew about and that they are not capable of doing before the artifact. The bad influence is that the small Maine town is now secluded from the rest of the world because of the uncovered object, and people are disappearing into thin air. Her partner Jim ‘Gard’ Gardner is a failing poet with an alcoholism problem. It appears that Bobbi and Jim are the only ones immune to the artifact’s power.
Reasons why I gave this movie a five: The Tommyknockers had too many characters that were not developed right and made it impossible for me to get attached to any of them. The pace of the movie was out of whack by it being too fast at times or too slow and never seems to meet in the middle. The ending was crazy in a bad way, and the special effect reeks as well. The music went well with the movie and added a mysterious creepiness.
